About Ojunai

Built for the way Africa actually trades.

Ojunai exists because the tools that small businesses across Africa actually use — pen and paper, spreadsheets, voice notes — were never going to scale, and the global SaaS that promised to help was built for a different world.

Ojunai means "the eye" — in Yoruba.

Ojú (oh-joo) is the Yoruba word for eye. Ojunai joins it with AI to mean an intelligence that watches over your business — every sale, every receipt, every customer balance. Pronounced oh-joo-NAI.

The brand promise: "The eye that never blinks." An assistant that's always paying attention, even when you can't be.

From provision-store memories to an AI that runs them

Our founder grew up in Ogoni, Nigeria, around small businesses — the kind that record sales in dog-eared notebooks, that survive on the discipline of an owner who remembers every debt and every restock by heart. Brilliant operators, hobbled by tools that the rest of the world moved past in 1990.

Years later, the technology had finally caught up. Large language models could understand Pidgin and English in the same sentence. WhatsApp had become the default operating system for every shop owner. Modern dashboards could feel native on a 4G connection. The pieces were all on the table — they just hadn't been put together for African SMEs yet.

Ojunai is that assembly. A chat-first AI assistant on the platform people already use, backed by a clean web dashboard for when you need the bigger picture. Built by people who knew the customer before they knew the technology.

The non-negotiables

01

Software should meet people where they are

WhatsApp is already on every phone, in every market, in every language. We built Ojunai inside it instead of asking shop owners to learn another app.

02

Local context is the product

Pidgin English, naira pricing, M-Pesa, agent banking — generic SaaS pretends these don't exist. Ojunai is built around them, not in spite of them.

03

Owners run businesses, not spreadsheets

Every minute spent on bookkeeping is a minute not spent serving customers. Ojunai's job is to disappear into the background and report back at 8pm.

Live across four African markets, building for more.

We support eight currencies (NGN, GHS, KES, ZAR, USD, GBP, EUR, CAD), local payment rails through Paystack and Flutterwave, and language understanding tuned for English, Pidgin and — through Voice AI — Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo.

We're a small, focused team. Hiring engineers, designers, and partnerships people who want to build the operating system for African commerce. Email contact@ojunai.com with the subject line "joining the team" if that's you.
